3 Best players ever to play for West Ham

Not the 3 best players for West Ham (i.e. Moore, Dicks, Brooking - albeit they can be in it if thats your choice!)

Simply because his performances have bordered on world class and really what made me start this post. Love the man - pay-to-watch-him-player

In my time watching us (83 onwards) there have been a handful of players that were - if you watched them - obviously a level above everyone else.

Brooking
Devonshire
Brady
Futre
Di Canio
Tevez
Bellamy
Song

It shows what we've had to put up with that four of those players were in teams that either were or got close to being relegated.

My first few games I attended were with my late grandfather (since late, not then - it wasn't a Weekend at Bernie's arrangement), who had been a season ticket holder in the 50s and 60s. He thought the team couldn't play its best with Liam Brady in it as Brady's intelligence and foresight was wasted on his team mates. He'd know precisely where the right pass should be hit but few of the players would know to be there.

I'll go for the 3 who probably played in the era where I went home and away and so gave me a lot of joy as one of them will only appear in my list, as I'm too young to have seen the real legends too often or even at all.

Dicks - Extremely underrated by all outside of west ham. Class.

Morley - For an average player, he was superb for us.

Di Canio - Genius.

Only left the likes of Bobby Moore out because I never saw them play live.

Sir Trev was just unbelievable. The way he just let the ball roll past his body is a skill that is lost to the modern game.

Dev was a magician and had a great understanding with Trevor. Best compliment you could give him is what Trevor Brooking said about him, and that was if Dev hadn't been injured then Trevor would have played on another year.

Bonzo was just the perfect all round footballer. Only two players I have seen come close to the perfect all rounder since were Keane and Vierra.

Ok so as the OP set out it's for whole careers and not what they did at west ham, for me Moore and then greaves are shoe ins

But the third spot, I guess mascherano has to be considered for what he's done but I think my choice comes down to two, brooking or Brady both who I sadly saw at end of careers

For me brooking but I'm guessing any arsenal fans would say Brady

What about neutrals? Anyone who see both at peak feel they can make a unbiased judgement??

born in 91, so in m lifetime di canio, tevez and joe cole were probabl m favourite players,

song is probabl up there but i have difficulty putting a loan player on there after half a season!

Tevez a very close 4th. Even after just a few days it's clear that Song is a player of the very highest quality. If he was at Arsenal, they would be title contenders.

I have no doubts that Vic Watson must have been a great player but how many of his goals were scored in the top flight. Sir Geoff is the greatest ever West Ham striker by a long way.

Vic Watson is the club's record goalscorer with 326 goals on 505 appearances, a feat unlikely to be bettered in the modern era. He once scored six, in an 8-2 home win against Leeds on February 9, 1929, scored four goals on three occasions, and managed 13 hat-tricks while at West Ham.\\

He won 5 caps for England scoring 4 times, amazing he had no further chances. Vic finished his carer with one season at Southampton scoring a further 14 goals.

Vic died in 1988 aged 90 and is buried in his home town of Girton, Cambridgeshire

His achievements for us were outstanding including 2 FA cup wins and a European final.
He could have left us when time were hard, there were no shortage of offers for his services. He remained loyal seeing us through the a 3 year period in division 2.

If we have ever had a more gifted attacking midfielder I would like to hear about him, perhaps Liam Brady came close but Sir Trev is a Hammer through and through

Hurst (best striker the club has ever had by a country mile)

then take your pick from Brooking, Bonds or Peters. Probably Martin because he achieved more in his career than Bill or Trev. It doesn't get any better than a World Cup winners medal and scoring in the final.

My 3 would be Moore, Brady & Di Canio.
Moore is obvious and Brady as discussed below.
Di Canio gets the nod as not only was he a player that was a cult hero for us he also won league titles and the Champions League at former clubs.

I think the best three in no particular order were Moore, Brooking and Dicks. My personal favourites seen during my lifetime are Dicks, Miklosko and Di Canio.
